The Illuminating Light (s)
Discussions, Dhikr & Maulid with Shaykh Dr. Gibril Haddad

A famous narration, known as the hadith of Jabir after the Companion (ra) who is said to relate it from the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace), states that “the first thing Allah created was the light of your Prophet, O Jabir, which He created out of His own light.” Each of these three components – firstness in creation, light, and creation “out of God’s own light” – is independently confirmed in the Qur’an, Hadith, and poetic testimonials of the Companions.

In conjunction with the holy month of Rabiulawal, the month of the birth of Sayyidina Muhammad salallahu alaihi wasallam, SimplyIslam is organising this special discussion with a visiting accomplished Islamic scholar, Shaykh Gibril Haddad, who will discuss the hadith and aspects of the station of Sayyidina Muhammad (s). After the discussions, Shaykh Gibril will lead us in a short dhikr and the recitation of Maulid Ad-Diba’i. Dinner will be served after maghrib prayers.

SimplyIslam.sg presents Journey to Ihsan – A SimplyIslam Seekers’ Retreat.

Ihsan means beneficence, performance of good deeds, and it implies the doing of good deeds over and above what is just and fair. It is indicative of the intense devotion of man towards his Creator and Master and his enthusiasm for virtue and piety. The aim of Ihsan is to create a sense of inner piety in man and to train his sensibilities in a way that all his thoughts and actions flow from the fountainhead of the love of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.

Indeed we are living in a period of great technological advancements, colossal political and economic challenges, frequent natural calamities, and personal tribulations. Muslims are realising that getting closer to the Love of Allah and His Messenger (s) is the way of reconciling the great tribulations of this age. Young and old, they are turning towards Islamic spirituality.

Throughout the centuries Islam has always been conveyed in a holistic fashion, through the articles of Islam, Iman and Ihsan. At SimplyIslam, and at this Seekers’ Retreat, we want to explore the wealth of knowledge in spiritual sciences, and heritage of wisdom written and taught by learned scholars of the past and present. Several local and international scholars will draw out this treasure of knowledge and scholarship, through which insha’Allah, we can effect great spiritual affluence and refinement of character.

Among the most critical need for Muslims today is to understand and embrace the concept of Ihsan as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and his sincere companions and followers. Through Ihsan we can enhance human values, character, spirituality and our relationship with society, community and the world. Through the discourses in this Retreat, seekers will learn to manage their lives as a Muslim and assimilate traditional and spiritual values in the modern world.

Join us in this Seekers’ Retreat, and embark upon this voyage of the soul ~ the Journey to Ihsan.

Synopsis
Love grows like a seed and there are several factors that increases our love for someone, among them being:

Their physical outward beauty

Their inward beautiful character

The good or the sacrifice that someone does for you

In all these factors, we find our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW foremost in them. Who could be more physically attractive than the one who is more attractive than even Prophet Yusuf AS? Whose character could be more perfect than the one who is “above sublime character” (Quran 68:4) and who was “sent to teach good manners” (Hadith)? His (s) overwhelming sacrifice for us is insurmountable and beyond our comprehension.

How are we able to emulate the lofty characteristics of a Prophet that was praised by Allah for them? Is it possible for us to express our love for and gratitude to him (s) by writing poetry like the Qasidah Burdah of Imam Busairi that stands the test of time? Shaykh Hisham will bring us on a journey in knowing and loving our Prophet Muhammad and sharing with us tips on how we can follow in his (s) footsteps.

Introduction
SimplyIslam Singapore presents the Camp Rabbani, a camp and retreat for youths. The Camp Rabbani brings together Muslim youths (ages 13 to 17) for some fun-filled days of Islamic living, learning and inspirational experiences. Our theme for this year’s camp is “Attitude for Gratitude”.

The camp is a 3 days 2 nights camp at the Edventure village, Tanjong Piai Resort, at Pontian, Johore. The breathtaking sunsets of Tanjung Piai EdVenture Village and magnificent sea front provide a very conducive environment for student and teachers to experience challenges, increase awareness and learn more about themselves and others. Tanjung Piai EdVenture Village is located in Pontian, Johore, Malaysia and is a place you must visit due to its many unique features. Geographically, it is the southernmost tip of the Asian mainland. The hinterland of Tanjung Piai offers the rural charms of remote villages, rich in their ethnic and cultural diversity. Tanjung Piai EdVenture Village will give you a chance to experience rural life in proximity and also its natural wonders. The resort is only about 90 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Singapore.

The camp includes exciting yet enriching programs, motivational workshops, team building games, spiritual and religious enlightenment activities, reflections of Gratitude, practicing the Sunnah and many more!

About Qurban (Udhiyah)
SimplyIslam is organising a Qurban (Udhiyah) project. The Qurban or Udhiyah is a Sunnah Muakkadah (highly recommended act) according to the majority of Islamic scholars. One sacrifice is sufficient on behalf of all the family members especially for the head of the household. [Click here for more info on Qurban or Udhiyah]

SimplyIslam Qurban Project
Alhamdulillah, for the 5th year running SimplyIslam will be organising the Qurban project in Indonesia to raise funds for Pesantren Darul Hikmah (Islamic Boarding School) in Mojokerto (near Surabaya, Indonesia). This project is in collaboration with the eminent Ustaz Masruhan Kyai Choteb and Pesantren Darul Hikmah.

How the Qurban Project Helps
The funds raised for Pesantren Darul Hikmah will be utilised for the maintenance of over 1000 students studying at the school. These students pursue both academic and Islamic studies at the school, including some pursuing the Hafiz or memorisation of the Qur’an program. While some of these students are also boarding students, most of them come from poor and needy families. The meat will be distributed to the students and residents around the Pesantren.

About Ustaz Masruhan
Ustaz Masruhan is SimplyIslam’s full-time resident scholar and is a Hafiz of the Qur’an and a renowned scholar and writer. His Islamic education was mainly pursued in Indonesia (to Degree level), thereupon he went on to complete his Masters Degree at Universiti Malaya (Malaysia). He is currently completing his Ph.D. at the same university. He has written over 40 books and for several years he was also the Imam Executive of Masjid Abdul Aleem Siddique (Singapore). He also have regular classes at Masjid Sultan (Singapore). He will Insha’Allah facilitate this Qurban project.

What’s the Cost per Animal?
The price per goat is only S$210. Please support the project generously. Your support will go a long way, Insha’Allah. Order Now!

FAQ
[From Website of Islamic Religious Council of Singapore]
Q: Is it permissible for one to perform Qurban overseas such as in Indonesia?
A: The Qurban is a recommended act. It is also recommended that the performer of the Qurban sacrifices the animal himself. If unable, another may perform the sacrifice on behalf of the person performing the Qurban. It is also recommended that the person performing Qurban to witness the sacrifice itself and pray that Allah accepts that act as an ibadah. However, if one is also unable to witness the sacrifice, his/her act is still valid and it will, insya Allah be accepted. This includes Ritual sacrifices done anywhere in the world.

Alhamdulillah, we are once again in the Holy Month of Ramadan, a time of spiritual renewal as we make efforts to increase our spiritual devotions through prayers, Qur’an reading and good deeds. Ramadan is also a time of giving, as Prophet Muhammad once said, “It is the month of charity, and a month in which a believer’s sustenance is increased.”

For the fourth year running, SimplyIslam is organising its annual Ramadan Charity Basket program. This year, SimplyIslam is pleased to support the Muslim Kidney Action Association (MKAC) and also the Ang Mo Kio FSC (AMK-FSC). And for the fourth year running, the event is also being supported by the biker group “Solidarity Brothers”.

The MKAC is a registered charity and has been in the forefront of providing care and support to Muslims who are suffering from kidney failure and chronic ailments and providing financial assistance to their families. The AMK-FSC runs three family service agencies which provide family and welfare services to residents of Ang Mo Kio and Seng Kang housing estates.

Insha’Allah SimplyIslam hope to raise $10,000 to provide food provisions and financial assistance to some of MKAC and AMK-FSC most needy welfare recipients. The food provisions include rice, milk, sugar, dry foods and other basic amenities including Eid novelties.

Let’s reach out and help them in their needs for Ramadan and Hari Raya (Eidul Fitr), Insha’Allah. Your donations would bring much needed relief for the poor and needy. You may donate through any of the following means:

TOPIC

In December 2010, a 26-year old Tunisian fruit peddler had never expected to have plunged the Middle East into a massive political turmoil when he set himself ablaze in southern Tunis. His tragic death sparked widespread unrest in the Middle East that continues to this day. As a result, Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was forced to step down after 23 years in power, followed by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, after a 30-year rule. Similar revolts are taking place in Libya, Bahrain, Syria, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Yemen as well.

The Middle East has a strategic position in world geographic politics as it connects the three continents of Europe, Asia and Africa. The region’s strategic importance, have made it an extraordinary player in modern world politics – major events in the region could have a profound influence on the world political landscape.

What does the Middle East turmoil mean to Singaporeans? What is its significance to Islam and Muslims, especially in Asia? What is the future of the Middle East? These are among the questions that will be addressed by the panellists of this discussion, Dr Hisham Hellyer and Mr. Zainul Abidin Rasheed.

Dr Hellyer, formerly Ford Fellow of Centre for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution, has spent the last several months in Egypt analysing the Middle East situation. Mr. Zainul Abidin was until May 2011, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State – Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During his tenure at Foreign Affairs, he was focused on developing relations with the Middle East and Africa.
